Bee the Future

Empowering At-Risk Youth Through Beekeeping

Our Mission

Bee the Future is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to empowering at-risk youth (ages 16–24) in Central Texas through beekeeping training. Our mission is to foster job skills, resilience, and financial literacy while producing premium Texas honey, promoting pollinator health, and strengthening the Texas honey industry. By reinvesting all proceeds into our programs, we create a sustainable cycle of opportunity and environmental stewardship.

Our Goals

  • Train 30 at-risk youth annually in two classes (15 morning, 15 evening) at a single Montgomery County location.
  • Maintain a 40-hive apiary producing 1,200–2,000 pounds of honey yearly to fund program sustainability.
  • Secure $250,000 over two years through grants (e.g., Specialty Crop Block Grant Program, church funds) for land, bees, and equipment.
  • Donate 2–7% of honey sale proceeds to community organizations after year two, fostering local impact.
  • Promote pollinator health through education and sustainable practices, supporting Texas’s agricultural ecosystem.

Our Intent

Bee the Future seeks to transform lives by providing at-risk youth with practical skills and a sense of purpose. Through hands-on beekeeping, we aim to build confidence, work ethic, and entrepreneurial mindsets, preparing participants for sustainable careers in agriculture or beyond. Our intent is to create a model of empowerment that blends education, environmental responsibility, and community engagement, ensuring lasting impact for youth, pollinators, and Central Texas.

Our Curriculum

Our 12-month curriculum equips 30 youth with comprehensive beekeeping skills, delivered in two accessible classes (morning and evening). Designed by experts, it combines practical training, life skills, and entrepreneurship, preparing participants for success.

  • Hive Management: Learn to inspect hives, monitor bee health, and maintain 40 hives, ensuring 1,200–2,000 pounds of annual honey production.
  • Honey Production: Master harvesting, extracting, and bottling honey, adhering to Texas Cottage Food Law for safe sales.
  • Carpentry: Build hive boxes and frames, developing woodworking skills for apiary maintenance.
  • Marketing & Sales: Create branding for β€œBee the Future Honey,” learn sales strategies, and manage revenue ($12,000–$20,000/year).
  • Life Skills: Develop financial literacy, teamwork, and leadership through workshops, fostering career readiness.
  • Pollinator Education: Study pollinator ecology, promoting sustainable practices to support Texas’s food system.
